What can we say? CSBT is beaming with pride after a marvellous display from our committed project team. Last Sunday 19th October the Green Build Hub Team (GBH) ran the Eden Project Half Marathon, joining nearly 1,200 people on the day who ran across both the full and half marathon routes around our stunning clay country.

Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust would like to thank the European Social Fund for supporting the collaborative development of our Green Build Hub team for the event.

A project of ‘firsts’ for many members, some of who were running a half marathon for the first time during this innovative build project. An initiative which is itself pushing the boundaries of eco building best practice from conception and design and now into construction as the Green Build Hub broke ground only a fortnight earlier this month.

Preparing ahead of the half marathon start, Phil Crossley – CSBT Trustee and Project Manager at Ward Williams Associates, said: “Training is going well and it is good for a team building event. Getting us all here, running and hopefully running together, maybe a few slipping off.”

A challenging course profile in and out of the Eden Project pit, this is a real achievement and an interesting route in the UK. David Edmondson, CSBT Trustee – Strategic Development Manager, Cornwall Council said: “I am thoroughly looking forward to it. I’m a bit concerned because I spent the afternoon surfing yesterday, which may not have been the best preparation for the run. But it is a great opportunity to publicise the Green Build Hub and promote working together in collaboration, it’s going be good!”

Everyone was raring to go. The runners have been training, donning the Green Build Hub high visibility vest and really getting behind it as a team. They were supporting each other on the way around the course, cheering over the finish line, and of course heading for a pint and a pasty afterwards – or cider and pasty – depending on your preference.

Cian Spowart, Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the Eden Half marathon in support of CSBT and the Green Build Hub project and would like to thank the team for all their hard work in organising the event. We have great weather today and are really looking forward to an excellent run.”

The Eden Project Half Marathon also provided an opportunity to fundraise for educational monitoring tools as part of the GBH project going live this coming June, based here at the Eden Project.

Congratulations again to our team – we’re so proud of you!

Well done to everyone who ran on the day, an excellent effort and a fantastic atmosphere. CSBT is already looking forward to next year. Perhaps see you in the newly opened Green Build Hub for some hospitality!
