January 2015 Progress Update

Things are moving very quickly here at the Green Build Hub site at the moment. The roof glulam beams are now on with the plywood roof decked and the concrete stairs have been installed. The scaffolding is just about keeping up with the build and is nearly complete.

The contractors have been battling the weather but now the roof is on and the scaffold covered in we hope to be more resilient to the weather. We are on schedule and have had several college students onsite asking questions and learning from a good exemplar project.

We are planning to install some monitoring equipment very soon onsite to start gathering data before the build is complete, this will allow us to test our analytics and data collection methodology.

Timber Frame Workshop Training Opportunities

We have had 4 full time Wood Occupations Level 1 students from Cornwall College St Austell, on a one day a week, 4 week, work experience placement here at CSBT. Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) are a growing option for the construction industry, moving away from traditional building methods. It is essential that here at CSBT we are catering for changes in the industry and enable companies and individuals opportunities to up-skill in order to help businesses to remain viable and flexible.

Below is a video showcasing the on-site construction of the timber frame element of the Green Build Hub and how at CSBT we are engaging with local students offering hands on work experience. The students have really enjoyed the experience and we hope it aids them to secure apprenticeships next year to progress to NVQ level 2 and 3.
